• 95bFM Album of the Week: The Menzingers - 'Everything I Ever Saw' I spy with my little eye a brand new album from Philadelphia punk band, The Menzingers! It’s called Everything I Ever Saw and it’s a doozy. Everything I Ever Saw is The Menzingers at their most defining. It's an album forged in the wake of life-altering change, where marriage, divorce, loss, and growth collide with a renewed creative urgency.

On her long-awaited third album, new avatar, the singer/songwriter (through the versatility of the guitar) challenges perceptions of these genres, while weaving together fragments of lived experiences to shape a world of connection and resilience during times of unrest. The songs journey through Black femme rage, joy as resistance, Gotham City-esque dystopia, misogynoir, romantic tension, and more. It’s anchored by production that demands a broader rethink about alternative, rock and indie music. Kelela’s defiant nature has propelled her so far already — from her hometown of Washington, D.C to world stages. In 2013, she released her debut mixtape, Cut 4 Me. She continued solidifying her revolutionary R&B sound with 2015’s Hallucinogen EP, with The New York Times naming its single, “Rewind,” one of the “25 Songs That Tell Us Where Music Is Going”. La producción incluye los sencillos “Salma Hayek” y “Muchacho Alegre”, que da nombre al álbum y que ya acumula más de 33,6 millones de reproducciones en Spotify, consolidando el impulso internacional del artista. This weekend, however, the Weeknd releases his Hurry Up Tomorrow movie, and it does not appear to be heading in the same direction. I want to stress that I have not seen Hurry Up Tomorrow, which was directed by indie auteur Trey Edward Shults and which stars Jenna Ortega and Barry Keoghan alongside the Weeknd himself. But the early indicators are not good. As I write this, Hurry Up Tomorrow has a robust 16% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Also, someone recorded one scene from the film in a movie theater — don’t do that — and it has gone viral specifically because the Weeknd’s acting is not good.

    • Album Review: Ethel Cain - 'Perverts' | None
      • Ethel Cain’s newest musical creation retreats into the corners of a darker family of genres: Slowcore, dark wave and occasional noise rock. In providing us with an exceptional nightmare to begin 2025, she proves herself to be a worthy crypt sister to the likes of Lingua Ignota, Uboa, and Converge.

      • FKA Twigs released her newest project “EUSEXUA” on January 24, 2025. It’s a dance pop-heavy album with classic Twigs elements like interludes of screechy dissonance and eerie whispers. “EUSEXUA” is definitely a different direction than twigs’ previous work; the production is more minimal, and the project feels more accessible overall. With earlier works like “EP2” […]

      • On Sunday, Bad Bunny released his sixth studio album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos, and people are saying it's his most "Puerto Rican" record yet. • A review of the album Dustpiles by Waylon Wyatt. Authenticity has always been country music's most valuable currency, and Waylon Wyatt possesses it in abundance. It's almost impossible to believe that Dustpiles comes from a 19-year-old making his full-length debut. Rich with heartbreak, reflection and hard-earned wisdom, the Arkansas singer-songwriter delivers a record that feels less like the arrival of a newcomer and more like the work of a s....

      • A review of the album Emotional Junglist by Nia Archives. There was always a sense that Nia Archives was destined to take jungle somewhere new. Since bursting onto the scene, she's become the genre's most exciting modern ambassador, introducing breakbeats to audiences far beyond the underground without sacrificing the culture that shaped her. Emotional Junglist feels like the moment that ambition fully crystallises, pairing the frenetic....

      • I've been living inside FKA Twigs's new album, EUSEXUA, for the last week and there are so many lessons to glean in so many aspects of our journeys. The one that speaks to me most prominently is not just seeking out moments of transcendence and solace even if temporary. But that these moments can be conjured up from within us if we prime our bodies and spirits for them. I wrote about that in the latest entry of my newsletter which you can check out here! https://lnkd.in/g9zGsA6U
