  • Frank Turner Planned A Record-Breaking 15 Gigs In 24 Hours, So Crywank Played 16 The Day Before | Stereogum | May 6, 2024, 7:59 p.m.
    • Last month, heart-on-sleeve punk Frank Turner announced he would attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most shows played in multiple cities in the span of 24 hours. He planned 15 sets between May 4 and 5 to promote his new album Undefeated. While the English musician accomplished that mission and is being praised for his feat, Manchester indie folk band Crywank played 16 sets in the span of 24 hours the day before.
  • Chief Keef Releases Long-Awaited Album 'Almighty So 2' | Stereogum | May 10, 2024, 12:47 p.m.
    • Chief Keef released his first Almighty So mixtape back in 2013, when he was 18 years old. At the time, Keef was already considered a washed-up major-label rapper, and Almighty So helped solidify his cult status. In the years since then, the Chicago drill style that Keef popularized has become a global phenomenon, and Keef has become an unpredictable, elusive figure. He first announced plans to release his Almighty So 2 follow-up six years ago, and it got delayed so many times that people thought it might never come out. Today, the album is out, and it’s really, really good.

  • Inter Arma Go All Nick Cave On Their New Album Closer "Forest Service Road Blues": Listen | Stereogum | April 26, 2024, 4:22 p.m.
    • Today, Richmond underground metal lifers Inter Arma release New Heaven, their first album of new material in five years. All the advance singles — the title track, “Concrete Cliffs,” “Desolation’s Harp” — were titanic, and I kept meaning to listen to the advance stream of the full album, but I guess I never got around to it. Maybe that’s why I was so surprised when I played the record today and the last track came in.
  • Justice Release New Album 'Hyperdrama' & Team Up With Tame Impala On New Song "Neverender": Stream | Stereogum | April 26, 2024, 12:50 p.m.
    • Today, the reliably hedonistic French blog-house duo Justice return with Hyperdrama, their first new album in eight years. When Justice officially announced the album in January, they led it off with the silky, disco-adjacent track “One Night/All Night,” their first collaboration with Tame Impala mastermind Kevin Parker. (They also shared the early singles “Generator,” “Incognito,” and the Miguel collab “Saturnine.”) Now that Hyperdrama is finally out, we get to hear the other track that Justice made with Tame Impala.
  • Brian Wilson Joins The Late Glen Campbell On Duet Version Of "Strong": Listen | Stereogum | April 12, 2024, 6:16 p.m.
    • The late country-pop icon Glen Campbell had a long history with Beach Boys mastermind Brian Wilson. As a member of the famous early-’60s session-musician nucleus known retroactively as the Wrecking Crew, Campbell played on a ton of Beach Boys records, including Pet Sounds. When Wilson suffered a nervous breakdown and stopped touring with his group, Campbell filled in for him on tour, and he also played on Pet Sounds. Now, a new version of a song that Campbell wrote and recorded late in life has been retrofitted as a duet with Brian Wilson.
